Another Reason to Be Wary of "Business Casual"

Above the Law reports a story out of a New York law firm about a memo circulated to summer associates about the proper dress code in the office.

While on one level the article and language from the memo itself suggests that the manner of message was somewhat demeaning and not what "tier one" law students are typically accustomed to receiving, the point reflects a harsh reality:  first and lasting impressions are based on what may seem like trivial things including one's choice of clothing.

Maybe "big" (or medium) firm life is not for everyone (and it's not) but if you are interested enough to work at such a firm for a summer or as a young associate, there's simply no denying that you are going to fare better looking more like a professional.
